G.T. Barney was advised by telegraph this morning of the death at Bedford of Capt. James E. Carlton, president of the National Association of Mexican War Veterans, of which organization Mr. Barney is vice president, as well as president of the state organization. Capt. Carlton was eighty-one years old and leaves several children. He served in the Third Indiana regiment. Mr. Barney will attend the funeral which will take place Sunday.

Bedford, Ind., Aug 31 - James C. Carlton, while out hunting, accidentally shot himself while climbing a fence. He will probably lose part of his left arm. He is one of the oldest journalists in southern Indiana and is prominent here. Mr. Carlton was recently elected a delegate to the Indianapolis convention.
