Services for Erby Elam Abbott, 83, Canton, will be held at 2pm Thursday (today), October 27, at Eubank Funeral Home Chapel, Canton, with Rev. Don Childress and Dr. Mark Robinson officiating.
Burial will be in Haven of Memories Memorial Park, Canton.
Mr. Abbott died October 24, 2005, in Athens.
He was born January 7, 1922, in Goshen. He attended school at Goshen and Eustace. He served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was employed by Luscomb Airplane Corp and chance Vought Aircraft as an experimental missile technician. He retired after 26 years with Chance Vought and began cattle farming. He was a member of Zion Hill Assembly of God Church, Chance Vought Aircraft Industries Retirement Club, and was an associate member of Sheriff's Association of Texas, Texas Beefmaster Breeders, United, American Angus Association, and American Simmental Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Less Martin and Hattie Louella Mixon Abbott, brothers, Fred, Marvin, and Cecil Abbott, and sister, Kodene Abbott Mixon.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ruth Stout Abbott, Canton, son and daughter-in-law, Michael Erby and Jonna Abbott, Canton, grandchildren, Misty, Robert, and Conner Cheatham, and Kimberly Abbott; and brothers, L.M. Abbott, Athens, and Tince Abbott, Martins Mill.
Pallbearers include Bill Abbott, Ivan Abbott, Dean Abbott, Aaron Abbott, Richard Abbott, and Dewain Mixon.
Family received friends from 6 to 8pm on Wednesday, October 26, in the funeral home.
