BICKNELL - James W. Evans, 72, Bicknell, passed away at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2006, at his home with his family at his side.
He was born July 18, 1933, in Edwardsport, the son of Clarence A. Evans and Leafy A. (Baker) Evans.
He was an Edwardsport High School graduate and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Wanda Rose Privett on Oct. 6, 1954. He worked for 36 1/2 years for Edgecomb Metal Works in Indianapolis and after retirement in 1991 he worked at the Brown County State Park from 1993 until 2003. He was a member of Edwardsport First Baptist Church and he attended First Christian Church in Bicknell.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Wanda Rose (Privett) Evans of Bicknell; two sons, Bradley Evans and his wife, Michele, of Houston, Texas, and Brent Evans of Bicknell; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, whom he thought of as his own brothers and sisters, William Riley Privett, Jr. and his wife, Georgia Lois (Rogers) Privett, of Indianapolis, Harold Privett and his wife, Alicia, of Greenwood, Donald E. (Dutch) Privett and his wife, Barbara, of Bicknell, Doris Privett Korb and her husband, David, of Solsberry, and Naomi Privett Thompson of Bicknell. He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Claude A. (Buddy) Thompson.
The funeral will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Duesterberg-Fredrick Wampler Shaw Chapel, 118 Washington St. Ron Barnes will officiate, He will be laid to rest at the Edwardsport I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the First Christian Church of Bicknell, Good Samaritan Hospital/Lincoln Trail Hospice or to the donor's charity of choice.
