MAXIMUS L. (MAX)
BRAUNSCHWEIGER
CANISTEO - Maximus L.(Max) Braunschweiger, 84, of 23 East Main St., died early Tuesday morning (Jan. 28, 1992) at his home.
Born in Wellsville, Feb. 4,1907, he was a son of Andrew and Emma Knorr Braunschweiger. He was married in 1932 to the former Eugenia Bartz, who died in 1962.
He made his home at the McCollumn home at 23 East Main Street for the past 11 years. He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception School and Wellsville High School. He received his degree in pharmacy from the Albany College of Pharmacy in Albany in 1928.
Returning to Wellsville, he was employed by the Charles Dean Pharmacy. Moving to Hornell in 1940, he was employed by the William Chapman Pharmacy on Canisteo Street, which he later purchased and operated as Braunschweiger's Pharmacy until 1963 when he sold the pharmacy to James Connors. He was employed as a free-lance pharmacist throughout the area until his
retirement.
He was a communicant of St. Ignatius Loyola Church, and an honorary life member of Hornell Council 243, Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Andrew, in 1976.
Survivors include one son, Cmdr. Andrew E. Braunschweiger, U.S. Naval Air Force, Ret., of Albuquerque, NM.; one daughter, Gretchen Duncan of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Catherine Braunschweiger of Wellsville and Florance Reuss of West Seneca;seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Curry's Funeral Home in Hornell, where a prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian Burial and committal prayers will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Hornell. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Wellsville.
