Clyde Blankenship, 65, died September 13, 1982 in the Pauls Valley General Hospital. He was born in west Texas November 19, 1916 to Bailey and Lavada (Lewis) Blankenship. He lived and farmed in the Klondike community for the last 62 years. Clyde had one of the few apple orchards in this region.

Funeral services were September 14, 1982 in the Stufflebean Funeral Home Chapel, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Sam Scantlin and Rev. Fine Stellman, both of the Beaty Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was at the Klondike Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Mrs. Blanche (Gilbert) Blankenship of Klondike; one daughter, Mrs. Rebecca Strickland (1940-1994) also resting at Klondike; three sons, Nevada of Pauls Valley, Paul and Silas of Klondike. He was also survived by three brothers, Samuel Newton Blankenship of Pauls Valley, Ralph and Jack Benny Blankenship of Wynnewood and three sisters, Mrs. Lorene Caldwell of Wynnewood, Mrs. Marry Jarrell and Lorene Anderson both of Pauls Valley. Nine Grandchildren and three Great Grandchildren.

Clyde's biggest interest next to family and friends was reading. He only made it to the 4th grade but was a self-educated man. If Clyde was a young man today I am sure he would have a Ph.D. after his name. I have never met anyone that loved to learn more through reading than my Grandfather Clyde.
