CROSBY , Rita E. Baker, 79, passed gently into the arms of the Lord Friday, May 13, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. A Sun City Center resident since 1977, Rita was well known for her skills at gardening and had a special touch with roses. She enjoyed bridge, golf and genealogy. Driven by her work in genealogy, Rita was the first in her family to own a computer and to use the internet. She was a longtime member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Rita was born December 14, 1925, in Napoleon, Ohio. After marrying Robert Baker in 1947, they lived in many places around the country during Robert's 25-year Naval career. They were residents of Vienna, Va., before moving to Sun City Center. For over 10 years the couple enjoyed a wide circle of friends and neighbors until Robert's passing in 1988. Rita then married Leon "Bing" Crosby in 1992, which allowed their circle of friends to grow even larger. They enjoyed the car club and traveled to car shows in Bing's red 1959 Cadillac convertible until his passing in December 2004. Rita truly cherished her friends and neighbors. Preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, retired U.S. Navy Cdr. Robert G. Baker; her husband of 12 years, Leon L. Crosby ; and brothers, Reynold Mullen and Hugh Mullen. Survived by daughter, Jane Baker of Pompano Beach, Fla.; son, Robert Baker Jr. and wife Mary Ellen of Grapevine, Texas; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Kathryn Baker of Grapevine, Texas; and sister, Ruth Tilmann of Grosse Ile, Mich. Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2005, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Sun City Center. Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita 's name may be made to LifePath Hospice, 3725 Upper Creek Drive, Ruskin, FL 33573.
