John McCranie was born in Lowndes County (now Cook County),Georgia in 1849 and passed from this life in 1923. He was the son of William and Melvina (Beasley) McCranie. Paternal grandparents were Daniel and Sarah McMillan McCranie. Maternal grandparents were Elijah and Rebecca Burnett Beasley He married Harriet Arline Limeberger on Jan 26, 1871. Somewhere between 1880 and 1885 they moved to Florida, living in Jackson County, Florida and then between 1910 and 1920 they moved to Franklin County, Florida on the Franklin County, Liberty County line at what is now known as McCranie Landing. McCranie Landing is located behind the Sumatra Cemetery on Black Creek. His children were Ignicia MeCranie, Mary Gertrude McCranie, Salome Melvina McCranie, Alice McCranie, Tallula "Lula" McCranie, William Benjamin McCranie, Daniel McCranie, Mattie McCranie, Bessie McCranie, John Wilson McCranie, Claudia Wilson McCranie, and Pearl Elizabeth McCranie. John's wife, Harriet Arline Limeberger McCranie is buried in Jackson County, FL.
