Funeral services for Mrs. Evelyn F. Hughes, wife of R. C. Hughes, and a resident of Harrisonburg for the past 53 years, will be held Saturday afternoon at three-thirty o’clock from the Harrisonburg Baptist Church, with Evangelist William Carey Barker in charge of the services, assisted by Dr. E. B. Jackson. Burial will be in Woodbine cemetery.
Mrs. Hughes, died at 12:40 Thursday morning, June 19, 1947, at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Active pallbearers will be: Clarence W. LeHew, Glen Stiteler, Jr., Hugh Fravel, Lenwill Holloman, Dr. Francis E. Mullen, Lee Chittum, Frank Roberts and C. B. Rhodes.
Honorary pallbearers will be S. B. Martz, C. T. Martz, V. G. Harlin, Dr. J. R. Gambill, C. A. Mason, Dan Hefner, Dr. John W. Wayland, R. L. Jefferies, Raymond Aldhizer, Mason Riggs, R. Lawrence Oliver, W. Eldridge Wilburn, Carl Showalter, D. A. Jackson, Dr. Paul Hounchell, J. B. Grove, William Lineweaver, Richard Jackson and Bruce Slaven.
The body will rest at the Lindsey Funeral Home on South Main Street until 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon when it will be taken to the church to lie in state until the hour of the funeral. The casket will not be opened in the Church.
