Emma Leona Hooper, 99, of Crane, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2004, at her home in Crane.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 27, 2004, at the Mary Street Church of Christ with Minister Danny Hooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Crane County Memorial Cemetery.Pallbearers will be Steve Hooper, Paul Hooper, Shawn Hooper, Kyle Hooper, Calvin Smith and Joe Napier.

Emma was born October 2, 1904, in Turkey, Texas, to J.B. "Jim" Love and Myrtle Ward Love. Her parents moved to Lea County, New Mexico, in a covered wagon when Emma was 2 years old, and homesteaded where the town of Lovington is now situated. She graduated from Lovington High School in 1924, and married Marven L. Hooper on October 2, 1928.

They moved to the John Scharbauer and Millard Eidson Ranch at Judkins, Texas, in October of 1930. They moved to Goldsmith, Texas, in 1937, to Kermit, Texas, in 1943, back to Judkins, Texas, in 1944, and settled in Crane County, Texas, in 1949.

She is survived by two sons, Gordon Hooper and his wife, Nita, and Sammy Hooper and his wife, Nina, all of Crane; a daughter, Marvelee Mikkelsen and her husband, Kent, of Rio Rancho, N.M.; eight grandsons; nine great-grandsons; and nine great-granddaughters; and a sister, Anemone Binkley of Lovington, N.M.

Services are entrusted to Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.
