Leona Elizabeth Small
Leona Elizabeth Small, 80, of Odessa, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at the Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence.
She was born May 24, 1929, in Warrensburg, the daughter of Claude Barker and Cassie Ola May Sims Barker.
She graduated from College High School in Warrensburg in 1947.
On June 10, 1948, she married W.N. "Buck" Small in Kansas City. He survives at the home.
Leona worked for Lake City Ammunition Plant in Independence for 30 years prior to her retirement in 1991. She worked at Western Electric during shutdowns at Lake City in the 1960s and '70s.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Odessa.
Also surviving are two sons, Greg Small, Tokyo, Japan, and Gary Small, Odessa; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Terry Small; three brothers, Talton, Lawrence and H.C. Barker; three sisters, Nadine Moore, Opal Colster and Vivian Baldwin.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at the First Baptist Church in Odessa, with the Rev. Terry Hodges officiating.
Burial will be in the Odessa Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Matt Small, Zach Small, Chase Small, Rex Green, Bill Hiles and Curtis Clemens. Honorary pallbearer is Larry T. Barker.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Chapel in Odessa.
