Martha Anita Mays Jones, 88, of Amarillo died Sunday, July 5, 2009.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock with the Rev. Joseph Andrajack, son-in-law and pastor of Christ Lutheran Church of Amarillo, officiating. Local arrangements are by Rector Funeral Home, 2800 S. Osage St.

Anita was born Oct. 21, 1920, in Bellville to William Thornton Mays and Verena Archer. She went home to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ, July 5, 2009, in Amarillo.

Anita grew up in Summerville. She later met and married her husband of 57 years, William Henry Jones, on Feb. 3, 1940, in Brenham.

Through the years, they resided in Brenham, Victoria and LaMarque, where they retired. Anita and Bill were members of First Baptist Church of LaMarque.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. H. Jones, and a son, D. W. "Cotton" Jones.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Kathleen Andrajack and husband Joseph of Amarillo; a sister, Betty Averitt of Brenham; a cousin, Delores Koopman of Hitchcock; a daughter-in-law, Betty Jones of Marathon; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church, 821 Laurel St., LaMarque, TX 77568-5409; or Building Fund of Christ Lutheran Church, 2400 N. Coulter St., Amarillo, TX 79124-4941.
