Mr. Bethurum Died Saturday.

The community was shocked last Saturday morning when it learned that Mr. Bethurum of Section, had taken a sudden turn for the worse that morning and passed away. This shock was more severe because in the Star Friday appeared the Section items, written by Mrs. Bethurum, in which she told of being so thankful that Mr. Bethurum was recovering from his five weeks' illness with quinsy. A weakened heart was the cause of the sudden turn with fatal results and our heart goes out to that "Good Mother in Israel" in her sudden bereavement.

The funeral was held Tuesday morning at the Section church, Rev. Love, of Vinland, preaching the sermon, with interment in Lincoln cemetery. All of the children, Ed Bethurum, of Iowa, Fred Bethurum, of East Las Vegas, N. M., and Mrs. Will Sanders, of Bucklin, Kansas, were present to comfort the mother and to attend the funeral.

William McKinley Bethurum, was born in Kentucky, March 8, 1849, died at his home half a mile south of Section, February 17, 1917, aged 67 years, 11 months and 11 days. He came to Kansas in the early days and in 1870 he was united in marriage to Nancy H. Edwards in Lyon county, where they lived for several years. To this union was born six children, three sons and three daughters; two daughters and one son preceded their father to the great beyond. About thirty-five years ago the family moved to Section and have occupied the same farm since. About 25 years ago the deceased united with the M. E. church at Section, and was a faithful member for several years. In 1900 he united with the Church of Christ at Section, and lived a consistent Christian to the best of his ability, and died in the triumph of the living faith.

Mr. Bethurum was a good neighbor, a good citizen, a loving husband and kind father and the willingness which the neighbors and friends offered their assistance during their illness and the true expressions of sympathy to the bereaved wife after the passing away of the husband, were unmistakable axioms of the esteem in which these ...od (sic) people are held in their community.

Relatives from a distance who were present for the funeral of Mr. Bethurum were, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Sanders, of Bucklin, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bethurum, of Iowa; Fred Bethurum, of New Mexico; Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Edwards, of Yates Center; Charles Edwards, of Olpe.

The Star joins the community in extending the sympathy to the bereft.

The 1850 Kentucky census is dated in September. -- The 1850 Lawrence County, Illinois census for the same family is dated in November. Part of their travel was probably by train.
