SAMUEL T. CRUMLEY DEAD.
Samuel Tilden Crumley, proprietor of the Crumley Coal company, a former Lyon county sheriff and a former chief of police in Emporia, died at 2:15 o'clock this morning at his home, 1002 Neosho. He had been sick for several months.
Funeral arrangements have not been made.
Mr. Crumley served Emporia as chief of police from 1923 to 1925 and was sheriff from 1925 to 1927. He had been a retail coal merchant and stockman for 22 years. He was born September 4, 1877, in Grenola, Kan., a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George W. Crumley, and married Gertrude Hayden Beal in Humbolt on December 25, 1905. Mrs. Crumley survives him. He is also survived by a son, George H. Crumley, 1428 Market; two daughters, Mrs. Robert L. Hubbard, Route 4, Emporia, and Mrs. Norman H. Arnold, 1215 Exchange; a sister, Mrs. Maude Gwinner, 902 West; a granddaughter, Marjorie Lee Hubbard, and two grandsons, Gerald and Leon Crumley.
Mr. Crumley was a veteran of the Spanish-American war. He was a member of the First Baptist church, the I.O.O.F. lodge and encampment, the Modern Woodmen of America, and the A.O.U.W.
Mr. Crumley was the first volunteer in Company E, 22nd Kansas Volunteer infantry, the company which went from Emporia for Spanish-American war service. He was a sergeant in the company.
