Son of Mathias and A.M. Keffer. Martin arrived in Philadelphia with his parents on the Ship Lydia in September. He married Mary Eva Lorentz, daughter of Morris Lorentz at Bally Berl's County. Martin moved his family into the wilds of Old Northumerland County. Their log hme was used as a church until they were able to biuld a log church with help from the Caul, Bouy and McGee families. Martin agreed to donate property to the church in a deed with Francis O'neal of the Potomac as a representative of the Catholic Church. Another branch of the Keffer family helped to form part of the Conewago Chapel in McSherrystown, Pa.
