Funeral services for James A. Evans, 87, well known Giles Countian, who died Thursday afternoon, November 14th, at the home of his son, Sam F. Evans, in Decatur, Ala., following an extended period of declining health were held at 11 o/clock Saturday morning at the residence, with the rites conducted by the Rev. G. M. Davenport of the Central Methodist Church, and the Elder Rufus Underwood, minister of Grant Street Church of Christ.
Burial took place in the family lot in Lynnwood Cemetery at Lynnville. The grandsons served as pallbearers.
The son of the late Samuel F. Evans and Louise Kerr Evans, he was a resident of Giles County the greater part of his life, moving to Decatur sixteen years ago.
He was a highly respected citizen of the community in which he lived and was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Mrs. Izora Abernathy Evans, also a native of Giles County; four daughters, Mrs. A. M. Smith, Decatur, Ala., Mrs. James E. Owen, Washington, D. C., Mrs. Anna Ruth Young, Pulaski and Mrs. Bert Bledsoe, Petersburg; four sons, Walter Evans, Detroit, Mich., Gilbert Evans, Pulaski, Allen Evans, Jackson, and Sam Evans, Decatur; a number of grandchildren; and two brothers, H. Bugg Evans and Luther T. Evans, both of Lynnville.
