SAMUEL CLUTTER was born in Fairfield county, Ohio, March 4, 1822, and died at Little River, Kansas, November 8, 1906; aged 84 years, 8 months and 15 days. He was married November 27, 1845, to Elizabeth East. To this union were born two sons and one daughter. On May 10, 1852, she left him by death. In the year 1853, on May 22, Mr. Clutter married his now bereft wife. To this union were born six sons and ten daughters, of which one son and four daughters died in infancy. Father Clutter moved to Little River, Kansas, in March, 1889. For several years he was very active as a farmer, but as advancing years came on he concluded to let others take up activities, and for the last four years has lived a retired life.
Mr. Clutter, with his wife, professed faith in Christ in 1856, and they identified themselves as the first members of a U. B. church, the organization of which still remains with a good church house as a monument to their memory. Their home has always been known as a church home.
Father Clutter leaves to mourn their loss a wife, seven sons, seven daughters, forty-one grandchildren and three great grandchildren, all of whom have the sympathy of many friends.
We realize that a good man has gone; the church has lost an exemplary member, the community a worthy citizen, but we bow in humble submission to Him who doeth all things well, knowing that our loss is Father Clutter's great and eternal gain.
Funeral was conducted from the Congregational church at 3 o'clock p.m., Saturday, November 10, by his pastor, Rev. M. F. Scouten, assisted by Rev. J. A. Holmes, pastor of the M. E. church, and interment was made in Bean cemetery.
