Joseph Dennie Tyler, one of eleven children. He lost some of his hearing when he was about 20 years old due to a violent attack of fever. He, along with his wife, move to Hartford, Conn., to teach at the American Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb, for seven years. He then accepted a job at the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind (VSDB) as school principal in May, 1839. (Little Acorn, Nov 2017 Issue, Page 11)
