On Thursday, April 2, 2009, our beloved mother finished her earthly journey and went to be with our Lord. She died peacefully at Summitview Healthcare Center in Yakima.

Anita Grace (Leaverton) Wolfe was born February 14, 1925 to Henry and Elizabeth (Waldher) Leaverton at Pomeroy , Washington.

Anita lived at Pomeroy , Washington and graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1943.

After graduation, Anita moved to Walla Walla, Washington where she worked for the Marcus Whitman Hotel.

Anita married Herschel Wolfe in 1947. They moved to the Toppenish area where Herschel ran a farm for CalPak and worked for the U&I Sugar Co. during the winter months. Anita remained at home, taking care of her children and home. In 1955 they moved into Toppenish.

Anita worked in the meat department at Mayfair Food, and did bookkeeping for Graham & Morris, Yakima Nation Land Enterprises, and Knobel's Electric, retiring in 1990.

After retiring Anita and Herschel made numerous trips with the Alpenlite Travel Club in their 5th wheel and eventually spent several years wintering in Yuma, Arizona. They also enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Chinook Pass.

Herschel and Anita belonged to the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and attended several ships reunions for the USS Raleigh and the USS Arided, which Herschel had served on during WWII and visited the Pearl Harbor Memorial in Hawaii.

Anita enjoyed playing bingo, playing card games, domino games, and taking trips to Elko, Reno, or Laughlin, Nevada with her daughter-in-law, Judy.

Anita was passionate about and very proud of her family and truly enjoyed family gatherings with her children and grandchildren.

Anita was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church of Toppenish and a member of the Ladies Altar Society. After moving to Yakima in 2000, Anita attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Yakima.

Anita was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister, Marie, a brother, Edward and grandson Ryan Holwegner

Anita is survived by two sons, Gary Wolfe of Toppenish and Dennis Wolfe and wife Judy of Kennewick; three daughters, Janet and husband Tom Schoenleber of Gig Harbor, Mary Pat and husband Jon Holwegner of Yakima, and Glenna and husband Barry Halvorson of Toppenish and one brother, Eugene Leaverton and wife Pauline, of Yakima. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, two great grandsons and one great granddaughter.

Viewing will be from 1:00 to 7:00 Pm and a rosary will be said at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, April 7th at Colonial Funeral Home in Toppenish. A Mass of Christian burial will be said at11:30 AM, Wednesday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Toppenish. Internment will follow at the Zillah City Cemetery .
