Staunton, Virginia, February 7 - One of Virginia's most prominent architects, died Saturday night, February 7, 1953 in a Staunton hospital after a short illness. He suffered a heart attack, Friday,
February 6, 1953. A native of Washington, DC, he moved to Staunton when he was about 10, with his father, T.J. COLLINS SR, also an architect and founder of the firm of T.J. Collins and Son here. Last year, he was winner of first prize for his plans for a State memorial for World War II. Previously, his World War I plan won second place in competition for a memorial which was never built. He was best known for his work in designing churches, not only in Virginia, but all through the east. He also designed several Virginia high schools. He is survived by 2 sisters and 2 brothers in Staunton. A requiem high mass will be said at 10:00 am Tuesday, February 10, 1953 at the St Francis Catholic Church with burial in the Staunton Thornrose Cemetery.
