Victor Loraine Darby, at eighty-eight years of age, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 4, 2009 in Baytown. He was born July 13, 1920 to parents, William Henry and Carolyn Myrtle Darby in Pelly, Texas.

Victor married Elva Lee Kinard in June 1942. Shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Victor enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps and served on B24 bombers in the Pacific Theatre, where he served as a Staff Sergeant with the 31st Bombardment Squadron, until the end of World War II.

After his return to the United States he worked at Exxon for 39 years before he retired. He and his family were longtime, active members of Second Baptist Church in Baytown where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years.

Victor was preceded in death by his parents, son, Alan Darby, sister, Lela Grace Baker and a son-in-law, David Witzel.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Elva Lee Darby. His children include Diana Darby-Witzel of Baytown, Toni Darby-Tan and husband Tom of Pensacola, Florida and Allyson Darby-Lauderdale and husband Robert of Cypress. His grandchildren are Laura Witzel, Ryan Lauderdale and Nicholas and Grace Tan. He is also survived by his sister, Lillian Allison of Ada, Oklahoma.

Victor also leaves behind sisters-in-law, Jessie Smitherman and Arline Smitherman and brother-in-law, Truett Kinard and wife Shirley and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 8, 2009 at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Stafford officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Crest Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Second Baptist Church Building Fund.
