From Paris News April 9,2006 Quote"
Paris patrolman Duain Shelby Cross was fatally wounded by Miles Bowie, who had reportedly had threatened to kill some children after they teased him earlier in the day, according to a report in The Paris Morning News(July 21,1920).
While Cross and fellow patrol officer R.S. Rodgers attempted to disarm Bowie, who had shot bill collector J.F.Massey, Bowie shot Cross in the leg and stomach. Rodgers returned fire with his pistol, killing Bowie and said "I got him".
According to newspaper accounts, Rodgers friend and fellow officer, lying wounded on the ground, said "Yeah, but he got me". Despite the efforts of Paris surgeons, Cross died the next day, leaving a wife who gave birth to a baby girl three weeks later.
