Obituary
Unidentified Newclipping - 1901
BISHOP.--Charlotte Bishop was born in the Town of Vernon, Oneida County, New York, December 18, 1816. At the age of seven she, with her parents, moved to Stockbridge, Madison County, New York where the balance of her life was spent, the greater part of which she lived with her sister, Marian. Sister Bishop was converted in the winter of 1854 during the pastorate of Rev. William H. Olin, who received her into full membership in the Methodist Episcopal Church in Stockbridge, where she held her membership until transferred to the Church triumphant. Sister Bishop's conversion was very clear and positive. She never doubted her acceptance with God. Indeed, perfect love cast out all fear. She was a perfect example of patience. She, like Paul, had been initiated into the secret of knowing how to abound and how to be abased. She had learned in whatsoever state she was therewith to be content. She was a liberal giver to the Church and its various benevolences, and though deprived for many years of attending the services of the church her prayers were always for the prosperity of Zion. Sister Bishop will be greatly missed among us, but our loss is her infinite gain. The funeral services were held from the church on Sunday evening. The pastor chose for his text those most appropriate words of John, "And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them." The burial was made in the Siloam Cemetery.
