Solomon Billman, Veteran Shoemaker, Died Early Today
ILL OF PARALYSIS
Was Seventy-Three Years Old - Civil War Veteran
Solomon Billman, aged seventy-three years, veteran shoemaker of the city, died this morning at 5:40 o'clock at his home, 1134 West Madison street following an illness of two weeks of paralysis.
Mr. Billman was one of the oldest shoemakers of the city, coming here in the early fifties when he was first employed by Mr. Niblick in the shoe repair business. He continued at this during his long residence here, and was one of the best known men in the city.
In 1865 he was married to Miss Sarah Hower. The immediate surviving family includes, besides the widow, five daughters. They are: Mrs. C. B. Cramer, Washington, D.C.; Mrs. A. S. Rogers, Cleveland, O.; Mrs. M. C. Breiner, Fellows, Cal.; Mrs. A. E. Scott, Indianapolis; Mrs. I. B. Stoneburner, Decatur.
Mr. Billman was born at Tamaqua, Penna., May 31, 1844. Two sisters live at Allentown, Penna. They are Mrs. Harriet Shellhammer and Mrs. Mary Holle.
Mr. Billman was a civil war veteran, having fought well for his country during the civil war. He was also a member of the local I.O.O.F. and of the Methodist church, from which place the funeral will be held, conducted by the Rev. Thornburg. The time will be announced on receipt of telegrams from the daughters who live at a distance.
