Jack Kenneth Fredrick, 80, was born on August 20, 1928, and passed away September 19, 2008, while surrounded by his loving family in St. Johns Hospital after a lengthy illness. Jack began his entrepreneurial career while still in high school by building a miniature golf course on land that is now the Plaza Shopping Center. Following graduation from Drury College, Jack became a homebuilder before moving into commercial development. Jack's many projects around Springfield included many warehouse projects, along with Glenstone Square and Fox Hollow Industrial Park. Even though Jack left his mark on the Springfield landscape, he was quick to say that he never really had a job, as he loved every minute and every aspect of the building process. Jack would have rather been working than anything else. Whether it was grading dirt on his tractor, finishing concrete by car headlights, or simply Sunday afternoon car washing, Jack was always on the go. Always known as the ultimate man of his word, Jack was loved not only by his family but the many subcontractors he worked with over the years. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Virginia Fredrick; and brother, Bob Fredrick. He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Peggy; children, Mary, Susan, Linda and Wayne, and their spouses; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Scovell. A private graveside burial was held on Monday September 22, 2008. The Family would like to thank the nurses of St. Johns Hospital 7th floor TCU, Dr. Richard Cunningham for his wonderful care, concern, and friendship during Jack's illness, and a special thank you to the over 100 friends who sent Jack a birthday card last month on his 80th birthday. Please make memorial contributions to Big Brothers/Big Sisters 3372 W. Battlefield Springfield, MO 65807 or CASA of Southwest Missouri P.O. Box 14364 Springfield, MO 65814. Arrangements are under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home
