Simon K. Bailey
Simon K. BAILEY, life-long resident of Rochester died 9:45 a.m. Friday at Woodlawn hospital, where he had been a patient since Wednesday night. His death was attributed to a heart ailment. He had been in ill health for the past two or three years.
Mr. Bailey for many years was the owner of a sportsmen store in connection with the Bailey Hardware business in this city. Simon, as he was better known to his host of Rochester friends, was also widely known throughout Indiana and his knowledge of both fishing and hunting was continually sought by Lake Manitou visitors. He retired from business a year ago and resided at his home on the north shore of Lake Manitou.
Simon K., son of Elliott and Caroline (ROTH) BAILEY was born in Rochester on August 12, 1872. He was married to Nonabelle RAGLAND of Rochester, who prceded him in death a few years ago.
Mr. Bailey was a member of the Eagles Lodge, the Loyal Order of Moose and the Izaak Walton club, all of Rochester.
When a young man he worked as a telegrapher in Rochester, Lima, Hepburn and Kenton, Ohio. Later, he was employed in his brother's planing mill. Following, he and George ELLIOTT purchased the "Sport" SPERLING sportsman store, which at that time was located in the building now occupied by Blumenthals.
Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Harriett PURCELL and several nieces and nephews of this city. Two brothers preceded in death, Stilla P. in 1923 and Charles H. [BAILEY] in 1943.
Funeral services will be held Monday two o'clock at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home. The Rev. Grant BLACKWOOD of the Christian church will officiate. Burial will be in the IOOF cemetery.
