Charles was born to Søren Albertsen and Mary Christiansen Albertsen. They were both immigrants from Denmark. Charles was born January 29, 1886 in Iron Mountain, Michigan. He was a baker by trade, and owned a bakery shop in Maywood, IL. When the Great Depression came, he was unable to make payments on the building, and lost his bakery. He took his own life, as did his father, Søren, many years earlier.

He married Elsie Louise Plagge, and they were the parents of three sons: Homer Charles, Stanton Keith, and Ralph.
