Carl R.W. Anderson, the son of Edwin C and Alida (Brandt) Anderson, was born April 13, 1923 in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1927, Carl moved with his family to Newton, where he graduated from the Newton Senior High, Class of 1941. Carl had served his country during World War II, with the US Army.
On April 18, 1942, Carl was united in marriage with Helen M. Anderson in Newton. He was employed by the US Postal Service, retiring in 1982, after 23 years of service. He had devoted his life to his wife and family, and was a member of the First Lutheran Church, V.F.W. Post #1655, the American Legion Post #111 and the Local Postal Union. Carl was a carpenter at heart, enjoying wood working, coin collecting and gardening.
Death came to Carl on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 in the Monarch Wing of the Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter Stephanie; and his three brothers: Ed, Walt and John.
Those left to honor Carl's memory include his wife of sixty-seven years, Helen M. Anderson of Newton; his two son and daughters-in-law: Tim and Jill Anderson of Newton, and Alex and Barb Anderson of Baxter, Iowa; his granddaughter Kelly and grandson Aaron; several nieces and nephews; and his many great friends.
