Mary Jane Powell was the wife of William Layton and the daughter of Kader/Cedar Powell and Emaline Fowler. After William's death she lived with her daughter Frances (Frankie) Layton and her husband Tobe Senn in Pike County. When Frankie died about 1900, she lived with her daughter Victoria Layton Allen. Her death certificate show Leighton and list her age as 78 or born about 1858.

Mrs. M. J. Layton Passes Away
Mrs. Mary Jane Layton "no age" died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Y. J. Allen near Milo. Surviving are the following children: George and Herman Layton and Mrs. Y. J. Allen.
Funeral was held from the Center Ridge Church Monday afternoon with the Rev. Mr. Richards officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Jackson, Haisten and Company in charge.
