Fern Howe was the daughter of George and Ella (Fraiser) Briggs. Fern was born July 19, 1915, in Lucas County. She passed away Oct. 22, 2000, at the Lucas County Health Center at the age of 85.
Fern married Melville Kent Feb. 24, 1930. To this union one son and one daughter were born.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Stella, two brothers, Everett and Donald, and a son-in-law, William Tjelmeland.
Fern is survived by her son, Charles Kent and his wife, Evelyn of Osceola, her daughter, Donajene Tjelmeland of Chariton, one granddaughter, Darcia Lange and her husband, Bruce of Promise City, three grandsons, Greg Kent and his wife, Jean of Osceola, Jay Kent and his wife, Connie of Osceola, and Stephan Tjelmeland and his wife, Deborah of Chariton, and eight great-grandchildren, one sister, Velta Briggs of Urbandale, and a sister-in-law, Clara Briggs of Chariton, and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held Oct. 26, 2000, at the Mosher Funeral Home in Chariton. Dave Tyree officiated at the services. Casket bearers were Stephan Tjelmeland, Clayton Freeman, Larry Briggs, Bruce Lange, Jay and Greg Kent. Sandra Horton was an honorary casket bearer. Interment was in the Coal Glen Cemetery in NE Lucas County.
