EMMA L. JOHNSTON, aged 72, life long resident of the McMurray section and for many years prominent in local and state club circles, died at the Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh last night at 10:30 o'clock after a short illness. Funeral services will beheld from the late home; Venetia, R. D. 1, near McMurray, Thursday afternoon at 2'o'clock in charge of the Rev. Carl J. Kissling of the Mt. Prospect U. P. Church. Burial will be in the Peters Creek Cemetery. While in poor health for the past two years, Mrs. Johnston had been seriously ill only since Friday. She was taken to the hospital on Saturday night. She was born on Sept. 23, 1866 at McMurray, the daughter of MR. and MRS. HARVEY McMURRAY. On May 25 she was united in marriage with O. A. JOHNSTON, who survives her. Children still living are LLOYD M. of Venetia, R. D. 1; J. HARVEY of Pittsburgh, MRS. ROBERT J. COOK, Belle Vernon; and MRS. CLYDE BARR, Marietta, N. Y. The following brothers and sisters also survive: WILLIAM J. and CHARLES R. McMURRAY, both of McMurray, and MRS. HULTZ FIFE of Thomas Station, along with nine grandchildren. A member of the Mt. Prospect U. P. Church, Mrs. Johnston was active also in the Ladies Missionary Society, the 1918 Needle Club, and the Peters Township Farm Women. She also served two terms as a member of the board of directors of the Pennsylvania State Society of Farm Women which meets annually in conjunction with the State Farm Show. The body was removed from the Hinton Funeral Home to the late home today where friends will be received.
