Sturgeon- Mrs Rebecca Sturgeon, wife of M L T Sturgeon, died at her late home in Anthony, Kan, April 1, 1907. Twenty years ago, Mrs Sturgeon, with her husband and family, moved from near Edgington to Harper county, Kan, and settled on a farm near Freeport. Sixteen years ago, Mr Sturgeon died and five years ago Mrs Sturgeon, with her only remaining unmarried child, Miss Ella, removed to Anthony where she had since resided. Mrs Sturgeon was the youngest child of Joseph and Sophia Dunlap, who were among the first settlers of Edgington, Rebecca being three years old when coming to this town. Here she was married and her family all born and for more than fifty years she lived. Another of the Illinois pioneers is added to the list of the dead. When seventeen years of age, she was converted and united with the M E church, of which she was a faithful and consistent member to her death. For about one year she was almost helpless with paralysis but was patient and cheerful. Five of her children still survive her- Emmet of Caldwell, Idaho; Dr Quincy Sturgeon of Madrid, Iowa, who is now in Los Angeles, Cal, for his health; Mrs Mary Weakley of Decatur, Ill; Mrs Emma V Harrison of Harrisburg, Miss; and Miss Ella B of Anthony, who for some years has very affectionately cared for her mother. Miss Ella is an evangelist in the M E church, possessing much ability both as a preacher and singer. Mrs Sturgeon was buried by the side of her husband at Freeport, Kan. She was an aunt to Rev T J Wood and the last of Uncle Joe Dunlap's family to pass away. She is also aunt to Charles Dunlap of Taylor Ridge. (transcribed by Janet Dunlap)
