GILBERTVALLEY -- Mrs. Verna Crisler Gilbert, 92, of Valley, formerly of Roanoke, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000 at Lanier Memorial Nursing Home in Valley.Graveside services are scheduled for Thursday, May 25 at 4 p.m. (CDT) at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke with the Rev. Bobby Kirby officiating.Mrs. Gilbert is survived by several nieces and nephews.Born July 17, 1907 in Chambers County at New Hope, Mrs. Gilbert graduated from Handley High School in Roanoke and attended Alverson Business College in Birmingham. She was employed for many years at the Roanoke Plant of Palm Beach Co., where she retired as a seamstress. She was a long-time member of First Congregational Christian Church in Roanoke where she served in the Women's Fellowship and also was a member of the local Pilot Club. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Otis C. Gilbert. She was the daughter of the late John Henry and Bird Van Pendergast Crisler.Memorials may be floral, or donations may be made to a favorite charity.The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 24 from 5 until 8 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Home in Roanoke.Quattlebaum Funeral Home of Roanoke is handling arrangements.
