CLINTON - Lloyd Sterling Day, 85, of Clinton died at 2:20 p.m. Thursday (June 25, 2009) at his home.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with J. Kent Hickerson officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton, with military honors. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial gifts may be made to Lane Christian Church or Arthritis Foundation.

He was born Dec. 28, 1923, in DeWitt, a son of Ernest Day Sr. and Martha Arthur. He married Virginia Mae St. Charles (1926-2008) on Feb. 5, 1945, in Wayne, Mich. She died June 10, 2008.

He is survived by a son, Roger L. Day, Clinton; a daughter, Sharon "Shay" (Rick) Eccles, Jasper, Ark.; and one brother, Lyle R. Day, Clinton.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers, William, John, Roy, Donald, Ernest Jr. "Lefty," Raymond and Arthur; one sister, Naomi Ware; and daughter-in-law, Margaret P. Day.

He was affiliated with Lane Christian Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He worked for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for 43 years as a track inspector. He was a member of the VFW.

He was saved on Oct. 21, 1984, and baptized on Feb. 3, 1985.
