Henry Harrison Boss was the son of William and Caroline Boss. His mother was born in England; his father in Vermont. A millwright, William move his family to Wisconsin before 1860 when they were enumerated on the census in Portage County.

Henry operated hotels in Wisconsin and Florida and after retirement had a dairy farm in Hillsborough County. He is buried next to his wife, Ardella C. Boss nee Betsinger, and youngest daughter, Andrea V. Boss Thorn.

His marker has no dates but records his military service in the War Between the States. His Civil War Military Marker reads "Sergt. Henry H. Boss Co. H. 18 WIS. INF."
