OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN)
Funeral services for Walter L. Chandler, 70, who died at 2:30 o'clock Saturday morning in the Rhodes Memorial Home, Atlanta, Ga., were held in the Rhodes Memorial Chapel at 4:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, relatives here have been informed. Cremation was to follow Monday and burial in Falls Cemetery will be made later.
Mrs. Wilder Kendall, sister of Mr. Chandler, was en route to Atlanta when his death occurred having been advised of his critical condition Thursday. Mr. Chandler, who had spent many years in foreign countries chiefly as an overseer for sugar plantations, made his home with Mrs. Kendall here for several months before going to Atlanta to spend last winter. He was taken ill while there and was unable to return to Wabash with Mrs. Kendall, and his niece, Mrs. Merritt Harrison, who had also spent the winter in Georgia.
Walter Chandler was born Jan. 12, 1875 in Delphi, to William and Laura Chandler. While quite young he began his travels spending much time in South America, Cuba, Mexico, Alaska and several other countries for short periods. During the years he had visited frequently here. For the last 15 years before coming to Wabash for residence he had lived in New York City. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors besides Mrs. Kendall are one son, Raymond Chandler, Indianpolis; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Redman, Seattle, Wash, and four grandchildren.
