Charles F. Stanley, 65, highly respected citizen and prominent farmer of the Figsboro community, ended his life Monday afternoon at his home by emptying the contents of a gun into his temple. Death was apparently instantaneous. His lifeless body was found lying across a bed Monday afternoon by his son, Andrew W. Stanley, of this city, with who he had visited shortly before the tragic act occurred. It was said that Mr. Stanley came to Martinsville Monday morning for the purpose of accompanying a son to Roanoke to transact some business. While his son was making preparations to leave for Roanoke, the father, appearing worried and despondent, returned to his home where he took his life. Funeral services for this life long Henry county citizen were held Thursday afternoon from the late residence near Figsboro. Burial was made in the family cemetery near the home. Flower bearers were the decease's grandchildren: Laura Ramsey, Norine Gravely, Pattie Gravely, Billie Oakley, Julia Beck, Irene Ramsey, Mabel Ramsey, Pattie Hairfield, Avis Stanley and others. Surviving is his wife and the following children: Mesdames G. W. Ramsey, Bill Oakley, B. E. Beck, H. M. Taylor, Joe Hairfield, Messrs. Andrew W. Stanley, Letcher Stanley, O. K. Stanley, Kyle Stanley, Kenneth Stanley and Jack Stanley. Three brothers, George N. Stanley, Roanoke; Harry Stanley, Lanahan and John Stanley, Fredericksburg, and two sisters, Mesdames G. T. Ramsey, Bassett, and B. B. Young, Sydnorsville, also remain.
