His birth name is Bendicht Glouser per his pension but many others spelled it many ways. He spoke little English and required an interpreter. He was born in Barren County, Switzerland Germany. A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Adams County October 16, 1862, and mustered into federal service at Gettysburg November 6 as a private with Co. G, 165th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"). He claimed that while on the march home near the end of the regiment's term of service he contracted a disease to the head that caused inflammation of the eyes and that he "had to be led." He honorably discharged with his company July 28, 1863, in Gettysburg. His name is spelled "Benjamin Klansser" on the rolls.

It appears that he was called Benjamin more frequently than Benedict in the Pennsylvania records so he may have assumed the more English name of Benjamin.

This may be him but the dates from his tombstone is different than the Birth date unless this is a baptism date.
