Rev. John Hemphill, D.D. had two wives: 1) Jane Lind, and 2) Mary Nixon, the widow of James Andrew Hemphill, M.D.

He married Jane on 29 Oct 1793.

John was the Pastor of the Hopewell Church from 1795 to 1832. He attended Dickson College, in Carlisle, Penn. for some of his college years.

Rev Hemphill was also Pastor at Union ARP Church in Richburg S,C
