PENGRA – Mahlon Norton Pengra, 95, of Eugene, passed away June 3, 1992. He was born November 21, 1896 in Coburg, Oregon and has lived in the Eugene area for all of his life. He was son of a Pioneer Family in the Eugene area. He was the founder of the Emerald Baptist Church and his grandfather was the founder of the Eugene Baptist Church. Mr. Pengra was a veteran of World War I serving in the U.S. Army and was a longtime member of the Eugene Gleemen. Survivors include his wife, Deta of Eugene, his children, Byron and Mahlon Pegra of Florence, Jane Metz of Orange, California, Marjorie Paul of Edmonds, Washington, Donald Pengra of Palm Springs, California and James Pengra of Walla Walla, Washington, his sister Frances Abshier of Corvallis, 22 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren. Mr. Pengra was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Iva. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 10, 1992 at 2:00 p.m. at the Emerald Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Emerald Baptist Church. Musgrove's Riverside Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
