Actress. The daughter of legendary playwright Bertolt Brecht, she is probably best remembered for her career in German television. Raised within the theatrical milieu, mostly by her mother, opera singer Marianne Zoff, who had been Brecht's first wife, she relocated to Vienna with her family in the late 1930s as Berlin became untenable for Jews, living under a degree of protection due to her step-father, actor Theo Lingen, being a personal favorite of both Hitler and Dr. Goebbels. Hanne trained in dance at the Vienna State Opera, performed in Salzburg, and made her acting debut came in the 1941 play "Mrs. Luna"; from the early 1950s thru her 1976 retirement she appeared in numerous German television productions including two of her father's pieces, "St. Joan of the Stockyards" and "Senora Carrar's Rifles". After leaving the stage, she promoted and gave public readings of Brecht's works and was active in various pacifist causes. In 1995 she was awarded the Aachen Peace Prize, then in 1998 participated in the documentary "A Hundred Years of Brecht". Hanne published a collection of letters from Brecht to herself and her mother in 1990 and lived out her days in Munich.
