FRANK HOWARD WHITE FAMILY HISTORY:
Frank White was born in Will County, Illinois, on October 21, 1856. His father was a native of Massachusetts and died in Will County Illinois, at the age of 38.
His mother, a native of Vermont, remarried before coming to Madison County with her children.
Shortly after arriving in Madison County, Frank White filed a homestead in Green Garden Precinct and rapidly improved the land. His earlier years of pioneering was met with hardships and setbacks. He fought grasshoppers, prairie fires and hot winds which caused him to lose badly needed crops, but he persevered through all and was richly rewarded for his efforts. He had filed a tree claim so they would have lumber for building.
Frank White married in 1881 to Fredricka Knapp, a native of Will County, Illinois. She came to Madison County in 1871 or early 1872 with her parents, three sisters and one brother.
The newly married couple moved into a sod house that Frank White had constructed on his homestead. To them were born fifteen children: William, Clara (Johnson), George, Frank P., Emma (Streit), Oscar, Rose (Gugat), Matilda (Zessin), Roy, Pearl (Jantzen), Philip, Edward, Cora (Jantzen), Alfred and Leonard, who died in infancy. As their family grew, they soon build a wood frame house which is still standing today but is vacant.
