Services for Johnie Nathan Weatherford, 70, of Lufkin, were held Sunday, Nov 15 in the Gipson-Hunter-Metcalf Chapel with burial in the Fielders Cemetery.

Mr. Weatherford was born Aug. 7, 1928, in Manning, to the late Ruben and Bertie (Mosley) Weatherford. He died Thursday, Nov 12 in a Lufkin hospital. Mr. Weatherford was the retired superintendent of construction for the Lufkin-Conroe Telephone Exchange, following 37 years of service. He served with the 772 military police during the Korean Conflict, and was a Medal of Honor recipient. He was a member of the Bald Hill Baptist Church, and had lived in Angelina County most of his life. Mr. Weatherford was well known for the help he gave other people.

Survivors: wife, Doris Weatherford of Lufkin; daughter Andrea Weatherford of Lufkin; son Jeffrey Lynn Weatherford of Lufkin; sisters Estelle Brock and her husband Bertis of Texarkana and Violet Forsythe of Houston; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Weatherford was preceded in death by his son, Nathan Weatherford, and a sister, Sybil Hadaway.
