He married Jane Peiffer in 1866. After Jane's death in 1878, he married Sarah Agnes "Sallie" Sourbier Oct 15, 1878. After Henry's death, Sarah married James A. Delafield.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Gettysburg September 2, 1861, with Co. F, 87th Pa Inf, at the rank of private. Captured near Petersburg, Virginia, June 22, 1864, and sent o prisons in Lynchburg and Andersonville and ultimately to Millen October 31, 1864. Paroled at Jacksonville, Florida, April 28, 1865, and discharged by general order June 8, 1865.
