David V. Cherry, 81, of 500 N. Emerson, a former Sunnyslope and Monitor orchardist, died Monday evening in Central. Washington Hospital.
He was born Dec. 26, 1900, at Gosport, Ind., where he was raised and attended school, graduating from high school in 1918. The same year he moved to Wenatchee and worked in the fruit business.
He married Norene Strickler on Feb. 17, 1923, at Wenatchee. They lived in the Monitor and Sunnyslope areas and operated a fruit ranch until 1978, when they moved to Garden Terrace.
Mr. Cherry was a past master of the Beacon Hill Grange, had worked on several grower's service and marketing committees and was a former member of the Monitor School Board.
Survivors include his wife, Norene, Wenatchee; one son, Elmer, Bellevue; one daughter, Bernice McDonald, Wenatchee; two brothers, Frank, Petaluma, Calif., and Hobart, Martinsville, Ind.; one sister, Mattie Trueblood, Bloomington, Ind.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Friday morning at the Cashmere Cemetery with Rev. Jack Kennedy officiating. Memorials are suggested to Garden Terrace Guild or favorite charities. The Braun Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
