William H. Baird, retired farmer and former president of State College borough council, died at his home in Pleasant Gap this morning at 5 o'clock from complications following a stroke suffered last Friday night. Although suffering from asthma for many years, he was about as usual until Friday.

Mr. Baird was born in State College 81 years ago last October 17, the only child of Joseph and Rebecca Markle Baird. In 1876 he married Anna V. Eckenroth, who survives with one son, Lester F. of Mill City, Wyoming County. Four grandchildren also survive. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Pleasant Gap, and the I.O.O.F. of Hublersburg. During his residence in State College he took an active part in civic council affairs. He moved to Pleasant Gap 16 years ago.

Funeral services will be held from his late home Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. W. J. Wagner of State College officiating. Interment will be made in the Pleasant Gap cemetery.
