Stephen Doar acquired Harrietta Plantation in 1858, repaired it and made it his home. Three generations lived in Harrietta Plantation until 1930 when the heirs of David Doar sold it to Horatio and Sophie Meldrim Shonnard, which they made Harrietta their winter home.
