CASHMERE - Ona W. Decker, 85, a longtime resident of Cashmere, died Sunday, Oct. 15, 1995, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.
She was born May 4, 1910, in Fowler, Colo., to John and Nellie (Foss) Watson. She grew up and received her education in Fowler and, at the age of 15, moved to Leavenworth with her family. She graduated from the former Leavenworth High School in 1928 and continued her education at the Wenatchee Deaconess School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1932 as a registered nurse.
She married Clyde E. Decker in June of 1933 in Everett. They lived in Cashmere, and for a number of years she was a nurse at the Deaconess Hospital in Wenatchee and worked the last four years as the nursing supervisor. In 1952, she worked for two doctors at the Cashmere Medical Center and remained there until her retirement in 1975.
Mrs. Decker was a member of the Cashmere American Legion Auxiliary, the Eight et Forty group and Royal Neighbors of America. She was a volunteer with the Red Cross and a volunteer hostess for the Chelan County Historical Museum for a number of years.
Survivors include a son, Everett, Cashmere; one daughter, Donna Timpe, East Wenatchee; two sisters, Dorothy Elser, Leavenworth, and Sylvia Rice, Wenatchee; one brother, Owen; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985, one brother and three sisters.
