Elmer was born to Gideon & Anna (Stoll) Kauffman, both deceased. He lived in the Rensselaer area since 1911. He married Pauline Frey on Sept. 3, 1935, she passed on Sept 25, 1942. He married Fannie Anderson in Rensselaer on March 20, 1972.He was educated in the Jasper County Public Schools. He was a Painter and Carpenter for most of his life, retiring in 1978. He made several Grandfather Clocks and several pieces of fine furniture after retiring. Was a member of the Burr Oak Mennonite Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Jeanette (Mrs. Jack) Reimer of Gridley, Illinois and Joella Hays of Springfield, Illinois, 8 Grandchildren, 18 Great-Grandchildren, and 3 Great-Great-Grandchildren.
Besides his parents & first wife he was preceded in death by 5 sisters & 4 brothers. Memorials are suggested to Jasper County Salvation Army or Burr Oak Mennonite Church.
