Married 2nd Artimesia Fitz Anna (Jenkins) Cotterell on July 6, 1865 in Richland County, Illinois.

Civil War Veteran
He enlisted as a private in Company A, 63rd Illinois US Infantry Regiment on December 1, 1861 for 3 years in Richland County, Illinois and mustered in on April 10, 1862 in Jonesboro, Union County, Illinois. He was married, 5'11" tall, brown hair, Hazel eyes, and had a dark complexion. William re-enlisted as a Veteran for 3 more years on January 1, 1864 and mustered in on February 10, 1864 in Huntsville, Alabama. He mustered out of service on July 13, 1865 in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky at the end of the War as a Veteran.
