Edna J. Gaupin Salvati, 90, of New Kensington, peacefully went to her eternal home Wednesday, May 6, 2009, with family at her side. She had been ill since February. She was born Aug. 23, 1918, in Tarentum, to the late Louis and Marie Myslinski Gaupin. She lived her entire life in the Alle-Kiski Valley. Mrs. Salvati was owner and operator, along with her late husband of 63 years, Charles Salvati, of Salvati's Select Meats in Lower Burrell, from 1958 until their retirement in 1996. She began her working career at the former Siegel Clothing Store in New Kensington and later at Chuck's Food Center in Cheswick, from 1954 to1956, a store they also owned. She enjoyed being a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, cooking, cleaning, playing cards, traveling and cheering for the Steelers. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Leona Gaupin (in childhood), Elizabeth "Betty" Geiger and Alfred and Julian Gaupin, who both served in Europe during World War II. Surviving her are her children, Kathleen "Kathy" Burnham, of Lower Burrell, and Charles J. Salvati, of New Kensington; granddaughter, Kristin B. (Steven) Dumblosky, of Pittsburgh; and great-grandson, Seth John Dumblosky. Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday in the ROSS G. WALKER FUNERAL HOME, New Kensington, where a service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday. Co-officiates will be the Rev. Harold Mele and a Roman Catholic priest. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Arnold.
